A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY COMPARING CLINICAL OUTCOMES AFTER OBTURATION WITH RESILON/EPIPHANY OR GUTA-PERCHA/KERR SEALER

ABSTRACT:
Aim: the purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the treatment outcome of root canal systems obturated with gutta-percha and Kerr Pulp Canal Sealer compared with Resilon and Epiphany sealer.

Methodology: one hundred three teeth treated in a private endodontic practice were included in the study. Clinical outcomes (healed versus nonhealed) were assessed by using the Periapical Index determination and clinical evaluation at recall appointments. The magnitude of the association between obturation materials used and outcome measured was evaluated with univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis.

Results: univariate analysis indicated that pulpal vitality, presence of a preoperative lesion, and length of recall times were statistically significant in predicting the outcome. Logistic regression analysis showed that age, tooth position, and length of recall times were statistically significant in predicting the outcome. Root canal systems obturated with gutta-percha and Kerr Pulp Canal Sealer or Resilon and Epiphany sealer had statistically indistinguishable differences in clinical outcome.

ESTUDO RETROSPECTIVO COMPARANDO O SUCESSO CLÍNICO APÓS OBTURAÇÃO COM RESILON/EPIPHANY OU GUTA-PERCHA/ KERR SEALER

Objetivo: Comparar o sucesso do tratamento de canais radiculares obturados com Resilon/Epiphany Sealer e Gutta-Percha/Kerr Pulp Canal Sealer

Metodologia: Foram utilizados neste estudo 103 dentes tratados em um clínica de endodontia particular.Durante o período de prosservação , os sucessos foram avaliados clinicamente e radiograficamente , pela determinação de indíces radiográficos (PAI) . A dimensão da associação entre os materiais obturadores utilizados e o sucesso endodôntico foi avaliada com análise de regressão logística univariável e multivariável.

Resultados:A análise univariável indicou que vitalidade pulpar , presença de lesão pré-operatória e tempo de acompanhamento , foram fatores estatisticamente significativos no prognóstico do sucesso e , a análise de regressão logística multivariável mostrou que idade, posição do dente e tempo de acompanhamento também foram estatisticamente significantes no prognóstico do sucesso. No entanto, este estudo observou através da análise univariável e multivariável , que o tipo de material de obturação , Guta-Percha e Kerr Pulp Canal Sealer ou Resilon e Epiphany Sealer , não apresentaram diferenças em relação ao sucesso do tratamento.
